Athletic Hall of Fame

Moses Brown School is pleased to announce that several new members have joined the school's Athletic Hall of Fame at Reunion. 

Molly J. Bliss '96 is an accomplished equestrian. Molly participated in numerous championship events including being a Silver Medal Winner at the European Young Rider Championship (the only US rider to ever medal in this event), a member of the US Equestrian Team at the World Equestrian Games and a member of the Gold Medal Team at the American Young Rider Team Championships. Molly was inducted into the Amateur Sports Hall of Fame and named one as of Sports Illustrated “Faces in the Crowd.” She was awarded the Dwight H. Owen Award for Excellence in Character, Leadership and Sportsmanship and was the winner of the USET’S Hermes Trophy for being a leading young rider.   

Aaron Kenner ’93 wrestled and played soccer, tennis and golf at Moses Brown. He was co-captain of the wrestling team his senior year. Aaron was a wrestling tournament champion many times including being a three-time New England Independent School League Wrestling Champion. Aaron holds the Moses Brown Individual Match Record title with 100 wins and 1 loss. Additionally, he holds the record for the greatest number of first place titles at the New England Independent School League Tournament. Aaron went on to join the starting roster for Davidson College’s Division I wrestling team.

David Vanech ’98 was a noted member of the baseball team at Moses Brown. He captained the team during his senior year and was named the MVP during and was named the MVP during his junior and senior years. He participated in the Founders League Champions when he was named an All-Founders League pitcher and 1st baseman. He went on to join the Wesleyan University baseball team as a four-year starter. David played both pitcher and 1st baseman and was inducted into the Wesleyan Baseball Hall of Fame in 2018. After college, he played baseball in Greece as a member of Team Acropolis to promote the sport of baseball prior to the 2004 Olympics.

John R. Gower ’78  played 12 varsity seasons of soccer, ice hockey and lacrosse at Moses Brown. He was named captain for all three teams and received All-American Honorable mentions for both soccer and lacrosse. After Moses Brown he continued to play all three sports at The Lawrenceville School where he earned Team & Championship MVP and they won as the NJ State Soccer Champions. He was also named an All-American on behalf of the US Lacrosse Coaches’ Association All-American. John played soccer and lacrosse at Ohio Wesleyan University. He won championships with both teams and was named First Team All-Midwest and U.S. First Team All-American for lacrosse. Afterwards, he coached Wembley’s Women’s team and was the assistant coach for the Brown University Men’s Lacrosse team. John also played in the American Lacrosse League and the Major Indoor Lacrosse League.

Chloe A. Schmitz ’08 played soccer and lacrosse at Moses Brown. She was the Captain and MVP of both teams. Chloe also won the Coaches’ Award for soccer and lacrosse. She was named MVP in the RI State Championship for lacrosse and was named to the Third Team All-State for soccer.  Chloe was also named to First Team All-State for lacrosse three times. Additionally, she was named a Providence Journal Scholar Athlete in 2008 and was a two-time U.S. Women’s Lacrosse All-American during her junior and senior year at Moses Brown. After Moses Brown she played lacrosse at both Union College and University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

Gerald D. Zeoli ’78 was a member of the football, indoor track and baseball teams at Moses Brown. During these years he participated in the S.E.N.E. League Football Championship, was a member of the All-State Prep School Team and a Football High School All-American. Gerald also received the Lancaster Award and MVP award for football. His notable indoor track accomplishments include being a member of the undefeated team and being Indoor Track Prep School champions. The Baseball team received S.E.NE. All-League baseball honors. As a member of the baseball team, Gerald received the Fletcher Award for leadership, ability and versatility in athletics. After Moses Brown he played Football and ran indoor track at Springfield College. He was named to the ECAC Football All-Star Weekly Honor Roll and participated in the Indoor Track Relay Championships. Gerald was also a member of the EIAA All-East College Track and Field Team.

Joseph A. Zeoli ’76 earned 11 varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball and was captain for each of these teams. Moses Brown’s football, basketball and baseball team were named First Team All S.E.N.E. during his time at the school. Joseph was named MVP of the undefeated football team and Co-MVP of the basketball team. He also participated in indoor track and was a member of the undefeated team in 1973. He went on to play Division I baseball and Division III football at Wagner College. After college he played in the Newport Sunset League and the Providence Amateur League.

The 1953 Boys’ Spring Track Team is remembered for winning the Class A and Class B New England Prep School Track and Field Championships where they scored in all but two events. The team defeated Phillips Exeter Academy, Phillips Andover Academy and Mt.Hermon School among other teams. Coached by F. Warren Howe, Jr., the team included R.C. Nyman ‘54, R.G. Jones ‘54, C.N. Tingley ‘53, A.G. Elsbree ‘53, R.K. Oresman ‘53, A.L Parks, Jr. ‘53, P.G. Snyder ‘54, J.W. Lewis III ‘53, R.P. Winsor ’53, A. P. DiSandro ’54, M.C. Geremia ’53, W.C. Winslow ’53, C.C. Silva ’53, R.H. Goff, Jr. ’53, R.P. Farnsworth ’53, W.G Sheldon, II ’54, E.B. Sage ’54, A. G. Shepherd, III ’54, R. D. Stuart ’53, W. R. Gill, Jr. ’54, P.A. Anderson ’53, L.S. Alpert ’55, R.B. Walls ’55, L.S.
